Friday is definitely one of my favorite days of the week, especially when it kicks off a three-day weekend. I decided to begin the weekend and end my week just as I have done each day for the past 6 1/2 weeks, by doing just one thing for myself and for others. I was feeling tired after a busy week, but these two things gave me a much-needed boost.
The one thing that I was able to do for a friend of mine was to provide a safe haven during a tough time in the way of inviting this person to share our traditional popcorn and movie night with my younger daughter and me in our home. Sometimes, when someone is hurting, they don’t necessarily need or expect you to fix the situation, as they just want to feel ‘normal’ for a bit and to forget their troubles. On a cold Friday evening, we were able to provide my friend with a bit of warmth, the distraction of a funny family movie, and good company. The good we did made someone else feel good, and that made it all worth while indeed.
What I did for myself was to manage my time and to focus on the tasks at hand that I wanted to get done at both work and at home, so, that I really could relax and enjoy the holiday weekend with my daughters without being distracted by responsibilities. I was able to finish up my projects at work, so, I do not have to do them over the weekend and can return to work on Tuesday ready to take on new projects, instead of playing catch up from this week. The girls and I cleaned the house right after school, so, when 5:00 p.m. rolled around, we were ready to roll through the weekend without any unfinished business to attend to until next week. We were working for the weekend, and we made it!
Kindness may not take a holiday, but the girls and I are more than ready to do so. Happy weekend, you all!
