As I mentioned in my last “Irregardless” post, there are two demographics that I seem to appeal to-men who are homeless and men who are gay. Both groups are near and dear to my heart, and while I never have sought out either group, I am glad to be among them for a variety of reasons. I once posed the question to a dear friend, “Gay men are not attracted to women, yet they seem to gravitate to me. Why is that?”, to which he replied, “Honey, it’s not good, but don’t dwell on that.” A friend once remarked, “If you had a penis, you’d be perfect.” Finally, another friend offered, “Perhaps, you’re a gay man trapped in a female’s body.” Words to a single girl’s ears . . .
Irregardless of this appeal, even I have to draw the line when it comes to certain aspects of my personal life. When a female friend inquired about my non-existent dating life and offered to set me up on a blind date, my ears perked up when she said, “I have the perfect guy for you!” Then, she added, “He’s gay, and he’s fabulous. You’ll love him!” I am sure I will . . .
