Despite predictions by local meteorologists that today would be a rainy Sunday, it turned out to be a mostly sunny day, which was a pleasant and welcomed surprise. After a day of emotional upheaval yesterday, I was quite relieved and grateful that my personal storm clouds also had given way to a different kind of sunshine and warmth. Today has been a much brighter day indeed that was made all the better by what I was able to do for myself and my younger daughter.
There are few things sweeter than being woken up by my younger daughter crawling into bed with me, which is how my morning began. When she snuggled up next to me, I asked if she was okay, and she responded in the affirmative. When I asked if she wanted to get up and go downstairs for breakfast, she sleepily responded, “No, Mama, can you just hold me and cuddle with me?” It was a simple request that touched my heart so very much, because it was a gentle, yet powerful, reminder that the human touch and being present and available are among the greatest gifts that we can give to another person. So, I honored her request, and we dozed off together for a little while longer and then got up to greet the day. We spent a quiet, relaxing morning together, and at one point, while we both sipped hot tea, she remarked, “Mama, this has been a great day already.” That statement could not have been truer.
For myself, today was another Sunday that was the perfect combination of productivity and relaxation, and I feel both calm and re-energized thanks to the decisions and choices I made. I finished up household tasks and prepped for the upcoming work week, and I took time to write and to go for a long trail run. I also was very conscious of my thoughts and feelings, and I made sure that they were in line with how I want and need to feel and to help me reach my goals. Recently, I heard someone say that they ask themselves if the choice they are making will move them closer to their goal or move them further away from it, and I kept that in mind when I went through my day. I honestly can say that as this day comes to a close, I am closer to my goals, and that is a very empowering feeling.
Just one thing each day . . .

This is a lovely story of a blissful family Sunday.
Sometimes, it is great to simply sit back and live the day.

Elizabeth, I absolutely agree! It felt so good to have a quiet morning that was free of obligations and time constraints, and I try to have those kinds of Sundays as often as I can.
