I will begin this post by apologizing for the pun I used in the title, but I am blaming it on another day of snow, ice, and cold that have left me a bit slap happy. Plans may have to be postponed, but life goes on, so, I made the most of this Snow Day by:
- Shoveling my driveway . . .by myself. Okay, this may not seem significant or like something positive to do for myself, but it was actually. It was significant, because it was yet one more thing that I did on my own that left me feeling like a bad ass. When I finished, my muscles ached, but I couldn’t stop smiling. I enjoyed being outside surrounded by the blanket of snow across the yard and the glistening icicles, and the only sounds I heard were the shovel scraping against the driveway and the crackling of the iced over branches when the wind would blow. It was peaceful.
- Having a day at home with my daughters was such a sweet mid-week treat that I savored. Even though we could have done some household chores, who wants to do that on an unexpected day off from school? So, when my youngest daughter wanted to snuggle in bed this morning, we did. When my oldest daughter asked if we could go visit my parents for lunch, we did. When they wanted to play a board game together, we did. When they asked if we could cuddle on the couch tonight and watch one of their favorite television shows, we did. We spent the day doing what they enjoy doing, and I am so glad we did.
There was a moment this afternoon, when I was overcome with feelings of gratitude, happiness, and contentment, and all felt right in the world. It was a great day.
Just one thing each day . . .
