Irregardless of how positive a certain phrase or sentence sounds, one must pay attention to not only what is being said, but who is saying it, as well. For example, recently, at the day shelter for homeless men where I work. One of the gentlemen commented, “Miss Kristi, your hair is as pretty as mine is”, which sounds like a compliment, except for the fact that the commenter is bald. Perhaps, though, he believes that bald is beautiful and meant it in the most positive manner or perhaps not . . . .
