Day Three of the seven day Facebook black and white photo challenge captured a daily, and messy, scene in my life. These are my discarded clothes, following an early morning workout. Exercise plays an integral role in my physical and mental health and well-being.
I grew up in an active family, and my two older sisters and I played a variety of sports, in addition to simply playing. I played softball, soccer, volleyball, and basketball, and I had brief forays into tennis and cheerleading. I loved to ride my bike, play outside, and rollerskate by myself or with my friends. I definitely was always on the move!
As an adult, I traded in team sports for a gym membership and running. Later, after my divorce, the gym membership was swapped out for an elliptical trainer and strength training at home and trail running. My activities may have changed, but their effects remain the same.
Most mornings begin for me between 4:30-5:00. I do not like the sound of my alarm shattering the sleepy silence so early, but I do love how I feel when my workout ends. My mind, body, and spirit always feel stronger and more energized after I have used exercise to exorcise the visible, and invisible, things that weigh me down physically and emotionally.
By the time I need to rouse my daughters from their slumber to get ready for school and get myself ready for work, I have worked out and amready for the rest of the day. Not too bad of a start to Day Three or any other day, for that matter.
