Homecoming

Before my feet hit the floor this morning, I already felt overwhelmingly grateful for what had yet to happen. Just thinking about my day ahead filled my head and heart with a greater sense of joy and appreciation. I couldn’t wait to get going, for I was going home.

Today, I had the pleasure of spending the entire day volunteering at the day shelter for homeless men, where I used to work. To be in the presence of the finest gentlemen in all of Louisville and to be among the incredible staff and volunteers was such a beautiful gift. It is a sacred space, and to be welcomed back home was healing to my heart and soul.

I am thankful that my current employer allows its employees one day/year to volunteer in the community, and I am thankful that my former employer allowed me to spend the day at a place that means so much to me with people who inspire me. Even though I was there to help them, I can attest that it really is better to give than to receive. I began and ended my day in happy tears, and I am truly thankful.

Just one thing each day. . .
