When I woke up this morning, I thought about my schedule at work and what household chores awaited me after work. As I continue to share some of my daily moments of gratitude, in preparation for, and anticipation of, Thanksgiving Day, I also wondered what would stand out today. During my morning break, my wondering came to an end.
As I stood in line to pay for my hot tea to warm me on another unseasonably cold day, I encountered someone I know. He greeted me with a smile and a hug, which warmed my heart, and we exchanged pleasantries. He made his purchase, but I was unable to make mine.
When I went to hand the money to the cashier, she gestured to him and explained that he already paid for my tea. When I began to protest, he simply smiled and hugged me again. My words of protest quickly gave way to words of thanks.
We parted ways, but his kind gesture stayed with me. Sometimes, a small, unexpected act of kindness ends up making a big impression. I am so grateful for not only the delicious tea, but for a beautiful reminder that kindness matters. My cup truly runneth over today!
Just one thing each day. . .
