Then What?!

Today kicks off what I, jokingly and affectionately, refer to as my birthday month.  Because in true Leo fashion, one day is simply not enough time to celebrate!  It also is my fiancé’s birthday month, which is even more reason to keep the celebration going all month long.

And so begins another birthday month, but it’s anything but just another birthday month.  It’s a month of milestones and more. Much more.

The first half of the month will be spent preparing for a flurry of activities that will unfold over a five day period mid-month.  My oldest daughter and my fiancé’s youngest son returning to college for their junior year.  Undergoing my annual colonoscopy. Celebrating my birthday. Our youngest two children embarking on their first year of college.   The second half of the month will be spent beginning the adjustment period of being empty nesters and celebrating John’s birthday.  Then what?!

That’s a big question, and I am in the process of answering it.  Some answers are obvious. Establish a new normal routine.  Plan our wedding.  Continue to combine our households and blend our families.   This is where my focus will be for the next six months. Then what?!

Despite the sadness about our soon-to-be empty nest and the uncertainty about what is to come next, I also find myself feeling an increased sense of anticipation and excitement.  It’s akin to the feeling you get when you receive a present, but you cannot open it yet.  You may not know what it is, but you just know it’s going to be good, really good.

I am heading into this month feeling more aligned with the thoughts and feelings that help to design my life each day, and I am leaving space for the unknown.  My birthday month may only last for thirty-one days, but I will ask, and answer, the question, Then what?!, for many more days to come. I don’t have all the answers, but I don’t have to know them right now. They will reveal themselves in perfect timing, and I will be ready for them. Let August commence!

That’s another story.  . .
