After wearing my hair in a pixie for a number of years, last fall, I decided to start growing out my hair. As my hair has gotten longer, a number of people have complimented me by saying that I look younger with longer hair and that it is a flattering look. Recently, though, I received a comment about my hair that could only come from one of the guests at the day shelter for homeless men where I work.
Irregardless of how many comments I have received about my new hairstyle, there is nothing that could top this one. In the kindest of tones, this gentleman took one look at me and said, “You’ve really changed your look. You’ve transformed from a man to a woman”. I may feel like a woman, and apparently, in this man’s eyes, I finally look like one. Better late than never . . .

Great post! I wear my hair short and love it. If I had thicker hair I would’ve tried to grow it out again but alas it’s too thin. My ex hated my short hair so right now I love it more. You have a great face for any length you choose.

I have worn my hair short most of my life, mainly because I just don’t have the patience or expertise to style it day in and day out. I just decided to change it up a bit, and I have been pleasantly surprised with the growing out process so far. So, we’ll see what the end result is, and I will try to update my profile picture one of these days.

I love this! My hair is long, but I rarely take the time to style it, I am all about baseball hats and pony tails. And I am sure you look just as beautiful as always! 🙂

I so appreciate your compliment and empathy, as my physical appearance always has made me uncomfortable. I always have felt like I wasn’t pretty, so, I focused on being funny and smart. I feel like I just now am comfortable in my own skin and able to accept compliments about how I look. Progress:)

Great timing – I’m trying to decide if to go back to a pixie crop again. I know it suits me more (and it’s so easy in the mornings), but I also remember how quickly it needs cutting again, and I di feel more girly with longer hair. Can’t wait to see a photo 😉

I really loved my pixie, and it suited my small facial features well. I still don’t know what got into me to grow it out, and we will see where this all goes. Let me know what you decide, and I am so excited for you and all of the changes you are making in your life. Keep going!

Me too, all these new blank spaces on my blog to fill! And growing your hair out means you have the perfect excuse for lots of hair accessories…
